Scots Gap Medical Group is hiring a Practice Nurse for a part‑time, permanent role (28 hours per week). The salary is dependent on experience and skill set, and the position includes NHS pension scheme benefits. Primary Responsibilities
* Provide treatment and care in conjunction with GPs or independently as appropriate.
* Take responsibility for own clinics and time management.
* Review and file test results.
* Advise patients on general health and minor ailments with referral to the GP as necessary.
* Deliver immunisations and vaccinations (childhood, travel, holiday).
* Perform venepuncture.
* Administer first aid for presenting emergencies.
* Conduct diagnostic tests such as ECG, urinalysis, swabs, blood tests.
* Manage chronic disease/long‑term conditions (diabetes, CHD, CVA, asthma, COPD, CKD, mental health, learning disabilities, autism, hypertension).
* Initiate, develop and implement protocols for chronic disease patients.
* Carry out cervical cytology.
* Conduct new patient health checks (well‑man and well‑woman).
* Promote health education and weight‑management advice.
* Provide family planning and contraception advice.
* Act as chaperone where required.
* Run health campaigns.
* Monitor and maintain immunisation stocks.
* Conduct risk assessments in accordance with COSHH regulations.
* Keep up to date with practice policies and procedures (recording systems, drug administration, child protection, confidentiality, health and safety).
* Adhere to infection control procedures.
* Clean equipment and dispose of waste.
* Use computer systems correctly for patient data input.
* Contribute to and oversee QOF targets directly related to the practice nurse role.
* Support PCN initiatives when required.
* Maintain disease registers.
* Liaise with partners for clinical issues and the practice manager for administrative issues.
* Work closely with team (admin, reception, district nurses, health visitors, community matrons, school nurses).
* Liaise with secondary care and social services for safeguarding, quality and continuity of care.
* Attend monthly multi‑disciplinary meetings in line with clinical responsibility.
* Maintain own annual registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and work within the scope of the NMC guidelines.
* Be personally accountable for own practice and promote a professional approach to patients and staff.
* Record accurately, including data collection, completion of templates and read coding.
* Maintain continuous professional development and keep re‑validation and PDP up to date.
* Maintain car insurance ensuring cover for work‑related activities.
* Attend and contribute to internal and external meetings.
* Participate in practice development and planning.
* Attend courses and training as identified at appraisal and agreed with the practice manager.
* Co‑operate with research within the practice.
* Ensure health and safety compliance (hazard identification, fire procedure).
Qualifications – Essential
* Registered General Nurse (RGN)
* Current NMC registration
* Training in chronic disease management (including CHD, diabetes, asthma and COPD)
* Up‑to‑date training in childhood, adult and travel immunisation
* Excellent interpersonal and time‑management skills
* Self‑motivated and resilient
* Knowledge of infection control procedures
Qualifications – Desirable
* Training in cervical cytology
* Up‑to‑date contraception training including administering depo‑provera
* Ability to administer injections such as zoladex and degaralix
* Knowledge of EMIS Web
* Knowledge of primary care targets
Experience – Desirable
* Experience working in primary care
