Job Title: PostgreSQL DBA - Migration SpecialistLocation: Edinburgh or LondonType: 6 month contract with extensions up to a further 12 monthsAbout the Role:We are seeking a highly skilled PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team and lead critical migration initiatives involving high volume number of applications, including complex payments systems. This is a key role in a high-impact project aimed at modernising our data infrastructure and ensuring seamless transition from legacy platforms to PostgreSQL.Key Responsibilities:-Lead the end-to-end migration of databases for 34 business-critical applications to PostgreSQL.-Plan, coordinate, and execute migration strategies with minimal downtime and risk.-Ensure the integrity, security, and performance of databases throughout the migration lifecycle.-Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and payments teams to align data models and application requirements.-Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, performance bottlenecks, and replication challenges.-Develop documentation, migration runbooks, and operational procedures.-Contribute to the long-term optimisation, automation, and scalability of our PostgreSQL environments.Required Skills & Experience:Proven experience as a PostgreSQL DBA, particularly in large-scale migration projects.Deep understanding of PostgreSQL architecture, configuration, tuning, and security best practices.Experience with payment systems, transactional data, and high-availability requirements.Familiarity with legacy-to-PostgreSQL migration tools and processes (e.g., AWS DMS, pg_dump/pg_restore, logical replication).Strong scripting skills (e.g., Bash, Python) and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.Ability to manage complex dependencies and stakeholder communication across multiple applications.Desirable:Experience with cloud-based PostgreSQL (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure Database for PostgreSQL).Knowledge of PCI-DSS compliance or other financial services regulations.Exposure to DevOps or Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) environments.
