The Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) will play a key role in delivering high standards of patient and client care at Swayne & Partners’ Newmarket branch. Working as part of a supportive clinical team, the RVN assists veterinary surgeons in providing advanced patient care while also running nurse-led clinics and supporting the daily operations of the practice. The role offers the opportunity to develop clinical skills within a progressive and collaborative environment where RVNs are actively involved in patient care planning and case management.
The RVN assists veterinary surgeons during consultations, diagnostic procedures, and surgical operations, ensuring patients receive safe and effective care throughout their treatment. Responsibilities include preparing patients for surgery, monitoring anaesthesia, providing post-operative nursing care, administering medications and treatments as prescribed, and maintaining accurate clinical records. The RVN is also responsible for ensuring high standards of hygiene, infection control, and patient comfort within the practice.
A key part of the role involves running nurse-led clinics, including weight management, post-operative checks, wound care, and preventative healthcare consultations. The RVN provides education and support to clients on topics such as nutrition, parasite control, vaccinations, and general pet wellbeing, helping to promote preventative healthcare and strengthen client relationships.
The RVN works closely with veterinary surgeons, nurses, and support staff to ensure seamless patient care and efficient practice workflow. The role requires excellent communication skills, compassion for animals and their owners, and the ability to work collaboratively within a friendly and supportive team environment.
Swayne & Partners is well known within the local community for providing exceptional clinical care and actively engaging in local events and charity initiatives. The Newmarket branch provides advanced on-site care with the support of experienced RVNs and also benefits from the facilities at the Bury practice, which operates 24/7 and offers advanced surgery, inpatient care, and CT imaging.
Benefits include five weeks annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata for part-time roles), generous CPD allowance with opportunities for certificate-level study, private healthcare with Vitality, occupational health services, free eye test vouchers with contribution towards glasses for VDU users, enhanced maternity and paternity leave, three weeks occupational sick pay, and a generous colleague discount scheme for up to five registered pets.
The ideal candidate is a qualified and registered RVN who is compassionate, patient-focused, and committed to delivering high standards of veterinary nursing care. They should enjoy building strong relationships with clients, have an interest in nurse-led clinics and preventative healthcare, and thrive in a collaborative team environment.
