ABOUT THE WORTHGATE SCHOOL

OVERVIEW OF THE JOB
Undertaking invigilation for public (A-level, (I)GCSE and IBDP), University Foundation Programme or internal examinations along with other examination-related duties, under instruction from the Examinations Officer and/or a Senior Invigilator.

REPORTS TO
You will be directly responsible to the Examinations officer and will work within the framework set by the Principal.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB
General:
A good level of written and spoken English is required to communicate efficiently with pupils and staff;
To adhere at all times to school standards;
To be mindful at all times of health and safety requirements.

Specific:
To conduct examinations in accordance with the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), awarding body and Worthgate regulations and instructions;
To have a key role in upholding the integrity and security of the examination/assessment;
Any duty reasonably requested by the Examinations Officer including the following:

Before examinations
Attend training in advance of the exam period (compulsory);
Report to and be briefed by the Exams Officer prior to each exam session;
Keep confidential exam question papers and materials secure before, during and after exams;
Ensure exam rooms are set up according to the requirements;
Admit candidates into exam rooms under formal exam conditions;
Identify candidates and seat candidates according to the required arrangements;
Distribute the correct question papers and exam materials to candidates;
Instruct candidates in the conduct of their exams,
Deal with candidate questions;
Start exams in the absence of the Exams Officer.

During examinations
Supervise and observe candidates at all times;
Keep disruption in exam rooms to a minimum;
Deal with emergencies or irregularities effectively;
Record/report any incidents, disruption or irregularities;
Complete attendance registers and seating plans;
Deal with candidate questions according to the regulations.

After examinations
Instruct candidates in finishing their exams and collect exam scripts and exam materials;
Dismiss candidates sensibly and in a timely manner from the exam room;
Check candidates’ names on scripts, match the details on the attendance register;
Securely return all exam scripts and exam materials to the Exams Officer.

Other tasks
Undertake additional training, update and review sessions as required;
Undertake Safeguarding training and updates as required by the School;
Undertake, where required and where able, other duties requested by the Exams Officer, for example:
o centre supervision of exam timetable clash candidates between exam sessions;
o facilitating access arrangements for candidates, for example as a reader, scribe etc.;
o supporting the ‘second pair of eyes check’.

Develop and maintain a full understanding of current child protection procedures.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
The job requires that you:
have effective communication and good interpersonal skills;
Must keep up to date and have good knowledge of the JCQ/ CIE/ Cambridge Assessment guidelines for conducting examinations;
be reliable, punctual, flexible and readily available during main exam periods;
work well as part of a team or on their own;
be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time;
be confident and a reassuring presence to candidates in exam rooms;
be able to give instructions and manage situations involving different groups of people;
have basic IT skills (familiar with use of email, mobile phone messaging, etc.);
must inform the Examinations officer of any relationships to the candidates and ensure you are not the sole invigilator of an exam in which this candidate is participating;
are respectful and value students, parents and other customers;
we are committed to safeguarding the welfare and development of all young people and all invigilators will be subject to the receipt of a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service disclosure (formerly the Criminal Records Bureau).

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The above responsibilities are subject to the general duties and responsibilities contained in the written statement of conditions of employment (the Contract of Employment). The postholder is required to support and encourage the School’s ethos and its objectives, policies and procedures as agreed by the School’s Leadership Team and CGS.

The post holder is required to maintain confidentiality of any information in any form of communication pertaining to the School, staff, students, and parents that the post holder may be privy to. The post holder is expected to carry out their duties and behave in a manner that is befitting to a private international school and maintains the good image and reputation of the School and to uphold the School's policy in respect of child protection matters. The post holder may be required to perform any other reasonable tasks after consultation with the Principal.
