About the Role
As a Security and Pastoral Officer for RNN Group you will work within an educational environment, responsible for ensuring the safety and security of learners, staff and visitors within the campus.
You will help maintain a secure and conducive atmosphere to promote learning by monitoring college buildings and grounds, enforcing regulations, and responding to emergencies.
Key duties include engaging with learners, patrolling premises and grounds, monitoring CCTV, managing access points, and providing a visible presence to deter and respond to potential security threats and issues.
In line with RNN Group’s pastoral approach, you will support staff in managing student behaviour by promoting positive conduct, de‑escalating conflicts, and assisting in the supervision of vulnerable learners in communal areas, including moving learners from campus spaces into classrooms.
Ultimately you will ensure the Group’s buildings are a safe and secure environment for students, staff and visitors.
Responsibilities
* Investigate incidents and assist a range of prevention and response activities.
* Investigate incidents of loss, theft, vandalism and damage to property.
* Deal with the entire spectrum of student conduct issues and produce appropriate reports.
* Actively contribute to the creation of a safe and supportive learning environment.
* Provide a visible presence on the college campus to deter and respond to security threats.
* Work shift‑based, responding to emergencies and covering all operational hours as required.
* Work closely with the Estates and Facilities department, liaising with colleagues within the department and across the campus. Report to the Security Manager.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Relevant experience in a security guarding environment, dealing with the public in the retail or public sector.
* Experience using large intruder and fire alarm systems and CCTV monitoring, and ability to evidence experience carrying out first aid.
* Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in English and Maths (or willingness to undertake).
* Valid SIA licence (or equivalent) and first‑aid at work certificate dated within the last 3 years, including relevant health & safety training.
* Physically fit, able to remain active for extended periods and to respond quickly to emergencies, which may involve running or climbing stairs.
