Capita are looking for an experienced IT Developer, specifically to provide Server and Infrastructure Support to a key Life & Pensions client in the UK.
You’ll be joining a focused and supportive team, doing an incredibly varied role specialising in multiple functions such as licensing, firewalls, diagnosis/troubleshooting, system installation, and maintenance. As such, we’re looking for an individual with proven but varied experience as an IT Developer, able to provide expertise across multiple functions.
The role will be predominantly home-based in the UK; however, occasional visits will be necessary to either Glasgow or Manchester offices, so proximity to either of these locations would be preferred.
This is a permanent, full-time role of 37.5 hours per week; however, there will be a need to be on call on evenings/weekends when required (and compensated for accordingly).

Job Description:
What will you deliver?
* Writing codes and debugging.
* Performing unit tests, documenting changes, and refactoring less complex programs/scripts.
* Applying agreed standards and tools to achieve a well-engineered result.
* Identifying issues related to software development activities.
* Producing software builds from software source code.
* Conducting tests as defined in an integration test specification and recording the details of any failures.
* Analysing and reporting on integration test activities and results.
* Identifying and reporting risks.
* Gaining knowledge and experience through on-the-job training.
* With limited assistance, they can work in an analytical, disciplined, and systematic approach.
What are we looking for?
* Strong prior experience in a developer role focusing on server and infrastructure support.
* Diagnosis and Troubleshooting of IT issues:
o Essential skills/knowledge of Windows Operating System functions including 32bit vs 64bit operation, use of tools to query running processes, file handles, file and registry access, Windows firewall rules.
o Desirable experience of Virtual server setups.
* System installation & Maintenance:
o Essential skills/knowledge of the following: Common install methods (.exe, MSI including MST), registry function, automation, monitoring, and backout methods and tools.
o Desirable skills/knowledge of Web server platforms and technologies.
* Network Configuration and administration:
o Working knowledge of DNS, IP configuration, Active Directory domain administration, NTFS and share permissions, group policy, logon scripts, standard ports for SMB, AD, SFTP/SSH, HTTP(S).
o Desirable skills/knowledge of 3270 mainframe, telnet, Oracle and SQL Server ODBC and TNS connections, IBM DB2, and CICS Transaction Gateway.
* End User Support:
o Business operations, project services including system developers and their IDEs and other toolsets plus UAT and test environment support. Ideally some JDK and Eclipse background.
* Support for system recovery and workarounds, and BCP/DR.
* Scripting knowledge: specifically, knowledge of Batch scripting & PowerShell would be desirable.
* Knowledge of IT compliance standards & protocols.
* Knowledge of computer hardware, software, operating systems, and peripherals.
* Communication & interpersonal skills.
