Overview
Senior Structural Engineer role at AECOM. Location: Southwest & Wales (Basingstoke, Bristol, Plymouth) with hybrid working options. The SW&W team includes 43 structural engineers and BIM specialists. This is a client-facing, hands-on role focused on delivering complex structural engineering solutions and leading project delivery where required.
Job Responsibilities
* Take responsibility for leading or delivering analysis input on projects.
* Engage with clients and colleagues to define requirements, present proposals, discuss project progress and present project results.
* Control commercial, managerial and technical aspects of projects or parts thereof.
* Support identification of opportunities and preparation of fee proposals, including resource and programme information.
* Undertake or lead a team of junior engineers and technicians in technically challenging projects with minimal supervision within prescribed programme constraints.
* Coordinate project delivery with internal and external clients.
* Undertake structural engineering projects by performing analyses and calculations, and prepare design reports with limited supervision.
* Supervise analytical work ensuring it meets technical standards and programme/budget.
* Participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
* Perform quality control review of analytical models, design calculations or drawings.
* Mentor others in their professional development.
* Demonstrate willingness to learn new skills and consider wider engineering issues related to analyses.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Masters degree or equivalent in Civil or Structural Engineering.
* Bachelor’s degree (min. 2:1) in Civil or Structural Engineering.
* Chartered Engineer (ICE or IStructE) with full membership.
* A strong background in finite element software (e.g., ANSYS, LUSAS, STAAD) including non-linear geometry, materials, or time/frequency domain methods; experience with LUSAS preferred but not essential.
* Experience or willingness to learn Soil Structure Interaction Analysis (e.g., PLAXIS).
* Understanding of design codes, ideally including seismic design codes ASCE 4, ASCE 43 and ACI 349 (acceptable in a nuclear environment).
* Appreciation of nuclear safety and its relationship to design.
* Excellent English communication (written and verbal) and ability to explain complex engineering concepts to non-specialists.
* Ability to interpret results and translate into practical engineering solutions; capable of managing multiple projects concurrently.
* Demonstrable track record in delivering projects or contributing significantly to delivery.

Office locations in Basingstoke, Bristol and Plymouth. Flexible and remote working policies available. The SW&W team collaborates with other engineering disciplines and supports the expanding workload, including nuclear infrastructure delivery.
