Technical Project Manager (Technical Systems / Radar & Surveillance)
Permanent, Full-time | Hybrid working (3 days Office/ 2 days WFH)
Office based in Saffron Walden, Essex
UK-based applications only, No Sponsorship is available
We’re supporting a well-established UK technology company that designs and delivers advanced ground-based and coastal surveillance radar systems, alongside the software that enables their integration into wider security and sensing solutions. Due to continued growth and new project wins, they are looking to hire a Technical Project Manager to lead customer-facing delivery activities.
This role sits at the intersection of hardware, software, and systems integration. You’ll take ownership of externally funded projects once an order is placed, ensuring systems are delivered to specification, on schedule, and with a strong customer experience.
The Role
As Technical Project Manager, you will manage end-to-end delivery of surveillance system projects involving radar hardware, software, and third-party system integration. These systems are typically deployed as part of larger, multi-sensor solutions and require coordination across networking, power, mechanical mounting, and customer infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include:
Owning delivery of external customer projects from order through to installation and handover
Acting as the primary technical interface with customers and their engineering or support teams
Ensuring customers are prepared for installation and configuration within agreed timescales
Developing and managing project plans, schedules, and dependencies
Coordinating with internal sales, engineering, manufacturing, and procurement teams
Managing technical risk and integration challenges in complex operational environments
Occasionally supporting smaller internal projects where required
This is a hands-on technical project role, requiring a solid understanding of electronic systems and their real-world deployment constraints.
Background & Experience Sought
Degree in a technical discipline (e.g. electronics, engineering, physics, systems)
Experience working with electronic hardware or integrated technical systems
Proven project management experience, including use of PM tools and structured planning
Comfortable documenting technical and project information clearly and accurately
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders
Confident communicator with good written and spoken English
Candidates may come from technical engineering backgrounds and have moved into project delivery, or from a project management background with strong technical exposure.
Working Pattern & Location
Hybrid working supported, with three days per week on-site
Office location is just south of Cambridge, with good road and rail access
Occasional international travel to customer sites and installations
The business offers a collaborative and supportive engineering-led environment, with a strong focus on quality delivery and long-term customer relationships
