2-month contract position with a local authority
Summary
* This is a 2-month contract position with a local authority, focused on independently conducting food hygiene and food standards inspections across various premises. The role is crucial for ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, offering guidance on best practices, and supporting the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme. The officer will be tasked with maintaining accurate records of inspections and escalating significant concerns to the Lead Officer for Food and Safety.
Responsibilities
* Conduct 120–150 food hygiene and food standards inspections across low to high-risk premises over a 3-month period.
* Provide food business operators with detailed inspection reports outlining legal responsibilities, best practice advice, and Food Hygiene Rating Scheme ratings.
* Ensure inspection documentation and reports are returned and inputted into the database within 48 hours.
* Undertake revisits when requested to verify compliance and improvement actions.
* Escalate serious or non-compliance issues to the Lead Officer for Food and Safety.
* Maintain professional knowledge of relevant legislation, codes of practice, and current guidance in food hygiene and standards.
* Represent the local authority professionally during inspections and interactions with food business operators.
Experience
* Proven experience conducting food hygiene and food standards inspections across a variety of premises.
* Ability to work independently and manage a significant workload, including prioritizing inspections and follow-up visits.
* Experience providing professional advice and guidance to food business operators.
* Strong record-keeping skills and experience ensuring reports are completed accurately and within deadlines.
Qualifications
* Completion of either the Higher Certificate in Food Control (HCFC) or the Advanced Professional Certificate in Food Hygiene and Standards Control (APC-Food).
* Fully qualified and competent to undertake inspections across low to high-risk food premises.
* Relevant environmental health or food safety training as required by the local authority.
* Valid driving license may be required for travel between premises.

* Working hours: 48 hours per week

Requirements
A fully qualified Food competent Environmental Health Officer able to undertake food hygiene and food standards inspections in low to high risked premises, covering the work of a team colleague whilst on long term sick leave. You will need to have completed either the Higher Certificate in Food Control (HCFC) or the Advanced Professional Certificate in Food Hygiene and Standards Control (APC-Food)To work independently to undertake 120 - 150 inspections of premises over a period of 3 months; provide food business operators with inspection reports providing legal responsibilities and best practice advice and a brand standard Food Hygiene Rating Scheme rating, returning paperwork to be inputted onto our database within 48 hours of any inspections. To undertake revisits where requested and to escalate more serious issues to the Lead Officer for Food and Safety.
