Claire at Amber Mace are working with a children’s care provider of therapeutic residential care for children and young people affected by Child Sexual Exploitation and other forms of trauma. My client is looking for a highly skilled and emotionally resilient Children’s Home Manager to lead the Shrewsbury-based home and ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, and trauma-informed care for children who have experienced significant harm.
The Role
As the Registered Manager, you will be responsible for the overall leadership, management, and regulatory compliance of a specialist children’s home that forms part of our wider CSE services. You will lead a dedicated team in providing structured, therapeutic care for young people aged 12–17, many of whom may present with complex trauma, high-risk behaviours, and safeguarding concerns.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strong, compassionate leadership and ensure the home operates in line with Ofsted standards and Children’s Homes Regulations.
Build and maintain a safe, nurturing environment for children who have experienced CSE and other forms of abuse.
Recruit, supervise, and develop a high-performing team of care staff and deputy managers.
Lead on safeguarding, care planning, and risk management to protect young people from further harm.
Work closely with social workers, clinical teams, local authorities, and other external agencies.
Ensure therapeutic approaches are embedded in daily practice and staff are trauma-informed.
Monitor and manage budgets, resources, and regulatory compliance across the service.
Prepare the home for Ofsted inspections, audits, and stakeholder reviews.
Promote young people’s rights, voice, and participation in their care and recovery.
Essential Requirements
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
Minimum of 2 years’ experience managing or deputising in a children’s residential setting.
In-depth understanding of CSE, trauma-informed care, and safeguarding best practices.
Experience working with high-risk young people and complex behavioural needs.
Ability to lead and motivate a team in high-pressure and emotionally challenging environments.
Thorough understanding of Children’s Homes Regulations, Quality Standards, and Ofsted inspection frameworks.
Enhanced DBS clearance and full right to work in the UK.
Desirable
Therapeutic training or qualifications (e.g., PACE, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy).
Experience supporting homes through Ofsted inspections with a “Good” or “Outstanding” rating.
First aid, medication, and health & safety training.
