Job Overview

The Community Living Well Service (Kensington & Chelsea Talking Therapies) is looking for a qualified and experienced Senior Cognitive Behavioural Therapist or Clinical/Counselling/Health Psychologist to take on the role of Low Intensity/Step 2 Team Lead.


Main Duties

* Provide Clinical Supervision and Line Management for a defined caseload of staff.
* Oversee auditing, reporting, and ongoing training and development of Step 2 work within the teams.
* Drive further development of Step 2 pathways in Kensington and Chelsea, and develop Low Intensity work within the service.
* Manage and supervise PWP trainees, trainee clinical or counselling psychologists, high intensity trainees, and other appropriately qualified staff.
* Support extended hours clinics (8 am–8 pm) and contribute to the service provision across a range of primary health care centres, community sites, and voluntary sector sites.
* Provide face‑to‑face appointments and work across the organisation’s multiple sites.


Working for Our Organisation

Community Living Well Talking Therapies runs within the national Talking Therapies programme and offers a range of CBT and counselling‑based interventions for people with common mental health problems. The service comprises Step 2 and Step 3 CBT teams and Step 3 counselling, working in partnership with primary care well‑being services and offering extended clinic hours. Staff are required to spend a proportion of their working week on site, with well‑resourced ICT support and opportunities for CPD and clinical learning.


Person Specification

Applicants must be BABCP accredited and HCPC registered (where appropriate).


Experience – Essential Criteria

* Experience working in an IAPT service.
* Experience of operational management and service development within an IAPT service.
* Expertise in specialist psychological assessment and treatment across a range of physical and mental health conditions and care settings (outpatient, community, primary care, and inpatient).
* Experience working with diverse client groups across the life course, handling high‑severity cases and maintaining professionalism in the face of emotionally intense, distressing, or potentially abusive situations.
* Experience in adult mental health services.
* Experience of interdisciplinary working within the NHS.
* Demonstrated further specialist training or experience.
* Experience supervising trainees within a clinical health service.
* Experience teaching, training, and/or supervising staff from a range of clinical backgrounds.


Experience – Desirable Criteria

* Organising services to meet commissioning targets and operational objectives.
* Applying CBT to diverse cultural contexts.Carrying out psychometric assessments.
* Working with people with long‑term physical health conditions.
* Working in peri‑natal mental health.
* Working with older adults.


Qualifications – Essential Criteria

* Doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or equivalent), including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, neuropsychology, at least two distinct psychological therapies, and lifespan developmental psychology, accredited by the BPS; or Doctoral level training in counselling psychology (or equivalent – masters level plus completed post‑qualification training).
* Post‑qualification training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) that is recognised as leading to accreditation.
* HCPC registration, if a practitioner psychologist.
* Full or provisional accreditation with the BABCP.


Qualifications – Desirable Criteria

* Pre‑qualification training/qualifications in research methodology, staff training, or other applied psychology fields.
* Post‑qualification training in specialised areas of CBT provision, e.g. working in peri‑natal mental health, with long‑term medical conditions, or with older adults.


Other Essential Criteria

* Ability to teach and train others using a variety of complex multi‑media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional, and academic settings.
* Ability to identify and employ appropriate mechanisms of clinical governance to support and maintain clinical practice when exposed to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.


Other Desirable Criteria

* Experience working within a multicultural framework.
