Overview

Senior Advisor - Future Agriculture - Environmental Land Management (31666)

The Environment Agency seeks a dynamic, strategic thinker to shape the future of Environmental Land Management (ELM), particularly the delivery of Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier (CSHT). This role involves influencing the design and delivery of incentives, working with Defra and delivery partner colleagues to improve services to farmers, and contributing to the EA2030 strategy and government targets for water, environment and climate.

The team sits within the Nature & Place Directorate, part of the National Agriculture and Land Team, and operates in an agile, fast-paced, flexible and collaborative environment. Responsibilities

* Provide advice in meetings, manage commissions, and oversee programme milestones.
* Identify future risks and resource requirements; work across teams and organisations with senior leaders to articulate a scheme that supports outcomes.
* Contribute to the continuous design and delivery improvement of CSHT products for the Farming and Countryside Programme.
* Influence policy and agricultural scheme design and implementation by informing and shaping government policy.
* Represent EA expertise to Defra, delivery bodies and the agriculture sector to achieve consistency and collaboration.


Experience and Qualifications

* Experience of Agriculture and working with Defra and other statutory bodies is essential.
* Politically aware with excellent communication and networking skills.
* Understanding of environmental sensitivities associated with significant agriculture sector reform.
* Experience interpreting/evaluating evidence to propose risk-based solutions for challenging problems.
* Ability to prioritise and deliver complex work; self-starter who actively develops and advances ideas.
* Ability to work across internal and external customers and partners; manage expectations and provide rapid, effective responses.

Additional Details

* Location: EA Office base (national role; flexible/hybrid in England). Some travel/overnights required.
* Incident management objective in development plan; appropriate training provided.
