Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the delivery of the ECT service across the boroughs and provide clinical advice to professional colleagues. The role involves leading, teaching, supervising, and supporting junior staff. The post holder will also contribute to the development and evaluation of the ECT service, ensuring it meets accepted quality and safety standards in accordance with national and local guidelines.
* Actively participate in the day‑to‑day resource management of ECT delivery across the boroughs in conjunction with Operational Management Leads.
* Co‑ordinate the anaesthetic and psychiatric medical cover for the department.
* Administer intramuscular injections, monitor the effect of medications, contraindications and side effects, and provide accurate information to patients and carers in a format they can understand, in accordance with SOP0031.
* Work with patients within the CMHT, participating in the planning, delivery and evaluation of their individual programme of care to address presenting health and wellbeing needs, in conjunction with other relevant professionals.
* Complete relevant care documentation as required, particularly in preparation for transfer into Care Coordination.

Education and qualifications
* Registration with the NMC.
* Commitment to complete Non‑Medical Prescribing and Venepuncture training.
* Willingness to undertake further training relevant to the practitioner role resulting from legislative or service changes, as appropriate.

* Psychosocial Interventions Training.
* Mentor training.
* Electroconvulsive Therapy Accreditation Service Certification.
Experience
* Substantial experience working in a specialist ECT clinic.
* Experience of managing a group of staff.
* Experience in community mental health work.
* Experience in working with people with moderate to severe mental health needs.
* Experience of supervision.
* Experience of MDT working.
* Experience of leading a team.
Knowledge
* Understanding of the complexities of ECT and general anaesthesia, including dose titration and recovery.
* Thorough technical knowledge and understanding of specialist equipment and its operation.
* Clear understanding of the provisions of the Mental Health Act 1983, particularly with regard to consent to treatment.
* Strong working knowledge of mental health medications, effects, contraindications & side effects.
* Extensive knowledge/experience in social inclusion and recovery model of care.
* Knowledge of mental health legislation.
* Knowledge of CPA policy.
* Experience of managing or participating in change.
* Thorough understanding of unit policies.
Skills/abilities
* Ability to work effectively as part of an MDT.
* Safe administration of medicines, including deep intramuscular injections.
* Ability to supervise junior staff or students.
* Effective time management.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Recording relevant documentation to a professional standard.
* Ability to communicate informally and develop supportive relationships with clients, carers and other professionals.

Work related circumstances
* Use of a car or access to a means of mobility to travel across the Trust footprint in line with service needs.
