Financial Controller
– a pivotal role which will be at the heart of our organisation.
This is a unique opportunity to shape and lead the finance function of a respected business as we continue to grow and evolve, with some exciting times ahead planned for the business.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will be responsible for developing and overseeing the financial strategy and operations of the business. You will work closely with departmental heads to provide commercial insight and ensure financial decisions are aligned with our long-term goals. This is a hands-on role – not just managing the numbers, but building the financial systems and processes that will support growth and innovation.
The successful candidate will ideally be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) although those qualified by experience will be considered. You will be highly organised, with strong attention to detail and able to operate independently. Experience with Xero is essential.
Day-to-day responsibilities will include:- Debtor management, Creditors management, Management of Bank Accounts, Preparing Internal Payroll, Management Accounts,, budgets and cashflows. Develop business processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls.
Key Responsibilities
* Take ownership of the finance function, modernising systems and processes.
* Oversee all financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cashflow management.
* Provide commercial analysis and recommendations to support decision-making across the business.
* Partner with departmental heads to monitor performance, control costs, and identify opportunities.
* Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, tax filings, and audit preparation.
* Lead on financial planning for new business opportunities and strategic initiatives.
* Drive efficiencies across the business by implementing robust financial controls and reporting tools.
About You
We are looking for a commercially astute and forward-thinking finance professional who thrives in a dynamic, service-led environment. You'll be a natural problem-solver who is as comfortable "rolling up your sleeves" as you are advising the boardroom. Ideally, you will have had multiple years of experience working in a similar sized SME organisation.
Essential Skills & Experience:
* Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or qualified by experience.
* Strong track record in financial control and business partnering.
* Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
* Proven ability to modernise and implement financial systems and processes.
* Commercially focused, with the ability to turn numbers into actionable insights.
Desirable:
* Previous experience within a service-based or logistical industry.
* Experience supporting business growth or restructure.
