Locum Consultant Hepatologist

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us. The role will be based at Southampton General Hospital, within a team of 7 Consultant Hepatologists, to ensure continuity of service and re‑organisation of the Hepatology department.
Main Duties
You will provide a 7‑day service for endoscopy and specialty inpatients, support local liver transplant, liver cancer and cystic fibrosis workloads, and contribute to out‑of‑hours endoscopy rota. You must have a higher degree and research experience, and be able to deliver comprehensive clinical care to Hepatology patients.

Job Responsibilities
* In‑patient and out‑patient care to hepatology patients, complementing the sub‑specialities of the existing consultants.
* Support local liver transplant, liver cancer and cystic fibrosis patient workload.
* Provide endoscopy sessions.
* Contribute to 7‑day working patterns and the out‑of‑hours endoscopy rota.

Person Specification
Qualifications, Training & Experience
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* GMC registration with a licence to practise
* Appropriate knowledge base and sound clinical judgement
* MRCP or equivalent
* PhD in a Hepatology related field
* CCT in gastroenterology and general (internal) medicine (or within 6 months) with evidence of significant hepatology experience or dedicated hepatology sub‑speciality training
* Previous experience on an emergency GI bleeding rota
* Formal training in teaching skills
* Experience of presenting to large groups

* Understanding of equality and diversity principles
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
* Strong organisational skills, ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
* Calm, compassionate, adaptable in rapidly changing situations

* Specialist knowledge to manage emergency and elective hepatology presentations at a senior level
* In‐depth sub‑specialist interest within hepatology

* Involvement in service development projects in gastroenterology/hepatology
