Note: Due to the sensitive nature of the work, this role is full-time onsite in Reading. All applicants must be sole British nationals and either already hold SC clearance or be eligible and willing to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) to Security Check (SC) level.
Your future duties and responsibilities
You will play a crucial hands-on role in a complex technical refresh project involving hardware, OS, and infrastructure software upgrades. The project includes virtualising system components to optimise space and efficiency. As an Infrastructure Tester, you will ensure the new infrastructure meets all requirements.
Your responsibilities include designing test plans and scripts for multiple testing phases: System Integration Testing (SIT), Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT). You will validate infrastructure and application components post-upgrades, focusing on regression testing impacted areas.
You will also ensure the infrastructure is manageable and supports operational needs. Your ability to adapt testing skills to infrastructure environments is key.
Key responsibilities include:
* Designing and executing detailed test plans and scripts for infrastructure testing.
* Verifying that infrastructure meets technical and service requirements.
* Conducting multi-phase testing (SIT, FAT, UAT, SAT).
* Performing regression testing on application functions affected by upgrades.
* Collaborating with engineers to define test cases and resolve defects.
* Documenting test outcomes and providing audit-ready evidence.
Required qualifications
Candidates should have a solid foundation in software testing, with experience in infrastructure testing or the ability to apply core testing principles to infrastructure validation. Attention to detail and a quality-driven approach are essential, along with the ability to work independently and with a team.
You should be able to interpret infrastructure requirements and develop effective test cases to demonstrate functionality and manageability. Collaboration with technical stakeholders is vital for comprehensive coverage and issue resolution.
Preferred skills include:
* Strong core software testing skills; ISTQB certification is advantageous.
* Experience testing infrastructure components or willingness to learn.
* Ability to design, script, and execute tests in virtualised environments.
* Understanding of multi-phase test cycles (SIT, FAT, UAT, SAT).
* Excellent collaboration skills with engineering and service teams.
* Eligibility for SC clearance due to the project’s nature.
