Location - Leicester, with hybrid work option. We are looking for a Technical Author to take ownership of all product documentation, transitioning this responsibility from engineering and operations teams into a dedicated role. You will work closely with hardware, firmware, and systems engineers to produce clear, structured, and accurate manuals for both: • Installers / integrators (often professional marine technicians) • End users (trained mariners operating equipment at sea) As well as external manuals you will also be involved in producing internal documents such as manufacturing work instructions and servicing guides. This role covers the full documentation lifecycle: from gathering information and defining structure, through authoring, illustration, review, and controlled release. Documentation Ownership • Take full ownership of Guidance Marine’s technical documentation suite • Maintain and improve existing manuals written in-house • Define and enforce documentation standards, templates, and style guides Authoring & Content Development Write and maintain: • Installation manuals • Operator / user manuals • Maintenance and troubleshooting guides • System overviews and technical descriptions • Translate engineering detail into clear, usable instructions without losing technical accuracy • Tailor content appropriately for different audiences (installer vs operator) Collaboration with Engineering & Operations Work closely with: • Hardware engineers • Firmware/software engineers • Test and commissioning engineers • Operations and support staff • Extract information from schematics, specifications, firmware behaviour, and test results • Proactively identify documentation gaps during product development Visual & Structural Clarity • Specify or create diagrams, wiring illustrations, block diagrams, and procedural graphics • Ensure documentation supports real-world installation scenarios aboard vessels • Structure content for quick reference under operational conditions Change Control & Release • Maintain document version control aligned with product revisions • Support product releases with updated documentation • Ensure traceability between product versions and documentation versions
