Job overview

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Occupational Therapist to support adults with learning disabilities and complex needs. The role is based in the Waveney area of Suffolk with a supportive, multi‑professional environment close to the Norfolk Broads National Park and the historic city of Norwich.

As a Community Occupational Therapist you will work with adults with learning disabilities and/or autism who present with complex health and social care needs. Using a holistic, person‑centred approach you will apply your specialist Occupational Therapy skills to support individuals to live meaningful and fulfilling lives within their communities.

You will collaborate with service users, carers, colleagues and partner agencies within a multi‑agency approach, contributing to assessment, intervention and ongoing care planning.


Main duties of the job

* Qualified Occupational Therapist with appropriate professional registration
* Experience with or strong interest in working with adults with learning disabilities and/or autism
* Competent in applying the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) to your practice
* Experience using Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions relevant to this client group
* Excellent communication skills and ability to build positive, effective working relationships
* Training and experience in sensory integration/modulation is desirable

The role requires participation in an integrated multi‑professional team. Key responsibilities include engaging in case holding activities where occupational therapy needs are primary. You will also support the holistic and person‑centred care of service users.


Person specification


Qualifications

* BSc/MSc or Diploma in Occupational Therapy
* Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)


Work Experience

* Experience working in a learning disability field
* Experience working in a community setting or within a multidisciplinary team (MDT)


Skills

* Use of standardised Occupational Therapy assessments
* Experience in sensory integration/modulation


Leadership and Communication

* Experience supervising junior staff


Disclosure and Barring Service Check
