RESPONSIBLE FOR
Community-Led Café Operations
* Leading the daily operations of a charity cafe rooted in kindness, inclusion, and social impact.
* Upholding high standards of hygiene, safety, and compliance with EHO and legal regulations.
* Embedding the pay-it-forward system into all aspects of service, ensuring customers understand and feel part of the mission.
* Training and supporting staff and volunteers to deliver warm, dignified service that prioritises both affordability and community.
* Coordinating community events and activities within the café that promote connection and reduce isolation.
People & Volunteer Leadership
* Inspiring and empowering a team of volunteers and staff.
* Creating inclusive training pathways to build confidence, skills, and progression opportunities.
* Leading on safeguarding, health & safety, and staff/volunteer wellbeing.
* Approaching leadership with kindness, patience, and emotional awareness.
Community Engagement & Outreach
* Building strong relationships with local organisations, charities, and residents to increase awareness and engagement.
* Representing the café as a safe, welcoming hub for all — especially those facing hardship, loneliness, or food insecurity.
* Communicating the pay-it-forward system clearly to inspire generosity and participation from the wider community.
Social Business & Impact Development
* Managing day-to-day financials, including donations, sales, and resources used to ensure transparency and sustainability.
* Monitoring staffing hours in relation to till income, labour costs, and charitable impact.
* Identifying opportunities for growth, funding, and partnerships that align with the café's mission.
* Reporting on the café's social impact and outcomes to funders and trustees.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
The knowledge or skills required in the role are as follows
* Proven leadership experience in hospitality, charity, community work, or social enterprise
* Experience of recruiting, leading, developing and inspiring a team
* Strong understanding of inclusive, community-led operations, especially in a charitable or low-cost hospitality setting
* Ability to sensitively lead a mixed team of staff and volunteers.
* Excellent knowledge of Health and Safety, EHO and Food Hygiene requirements
* Confident in balancing compassion with operational efficiency and financial responsibility
* Strong finance, IT & business acumen
* Background in creative fundraising

* Able to remain calm and grounded in challenging or emotionally sensitive situations.
* Excellent organisational skills and IT literate
* Understanding of and commitment to the safeguarding and protection of all café users
* Skilled in communication and community engagement, with a warm and empathetic approach.

* Experience of providing information, advice and guidance services
