Job Summary
The Trauma and Orthopaedic department seeks highly motivated full-time Specialty Doctors to work in County Durham and Darlington Foundation Trust for a 1-year fixed term, covering a colleague's sabbatical leave. The start date is August, with potential to begin in July.
The role offers experience in all aspects of orthopaedic surgery, suitable for those aiming for National Recruitment and Selection, FRCS(Orth), or Article 14 application. The successful candidate will participate in research and audits and may have the opportunity to complete a Certificate of Medical Education at Newcastle University on a part-time basis.
Rotation will include lower limb arthroplasty, knee, foot and ankle, hand, shoulder, and elbow surgery, with exposure to trauma. The position involves working a 1:9 on-call rota.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be based at either DMH or UHND, providing comprehensive Orthopaedic services to County Durham. Responsibilities include working with a consultant to ensure high standards of patient care, managing a caseload, providing outpatient clinics, emergency trauma services, and theatre work under supervision.
The role involves working as part of a team, participating in on-call duties, clinical meetings, postgraduate teaching, research, audits, and clinical governance. The post holder will also be responsible for supervising junior staff and ensuring continuous patient care, deputising in the absence of colleagues when needed.

* Fluency in English
Skills & Knowledge
* Completed CT2 training or two years orthopaedic experience
* Ability to undertake minor/intermediate surgery under supervision
* Knowledge of orthopaedic trauma management
* Time management and effective communication skills
* Experience in clinical audit and teaching

* Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
