Salary: £39,129 - £46,023

Salary: 36 per week

CHANGE MAKERS PROJECT OFFICER (Addressing the Impacts of Edinburgh's Slavery and Colonial Heritage)

As part of The City of Edinburgh Council's Museums and Galleries Service, you will lead on delivery of the Change Makers project, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. This is a full time (36hrs/week), 24-month fixed term initiative which supports the Council's partnership with the independent Edinburgh Slavery and Colonialism Legacy Review Implementation Group (ESCLRIG) in their shared aim to engage a range of stakeholder organisations and residents from diverse communities in delivering the Edinburgh Slavery and Colonisation Legacy Review report recommendations.

THE POSTHOLDER

Your will have experience communicating with people of different ethnic, cultural and faith backgrounds, and other protected characteristics, some of whom may have experience and/or feelings of being discriminated against as direct result of this legacy. You are an advocate for human-rights centred working.

Your understanding of equalities and demonstrable commitment to anti-racist practice in a learning or heritage setting will equip you to work with a diverse range of people and organisations to effect positive change and develop individual understanding and confidence. The wellbeing of all involved will be a priority for you, as will the nurturing of existing relationships with diverse community groups, and forging partnerships with other committed stakeholders.

THE WHAT - MAJOR TASKS/JOB ACTIVITIES

* Communicating the project aims and ESCLRIG's remit to supporters, stakeholders and the media as required
* Refining, consulting on and delivering the Change Makers project plan, regularly reporting on progress and managing the budget
* Overseeing creation of a digital plan and variety of accessible digital outputs
* Providing secretariat, project and administrative support to ESCLRIG and the project Advisory Group
* Collecting and monitoring data to support project evaluation and ultimately create a legacy plan. Success will be measured through appropriate KPIs to be developed at the start of the project
* Identifying and sharing good practice. Listening, learning, and sharing amongst a range of organisational allies and community partners through engagement events and formal consultation
* Delivering project outputs as defined in accordance with the project plan
* Keeping abreast of changes in policy, legislation and sector standards in relation to Access, Sustainability, Equalities, Anti-Racism, and the anticipated Human Rights Act being passed by the Scottish Parliament
* Working with staff and volunteers across the Museums Service and ESCLRIG to support the integration of anti-racist and decolonial principles in all communications and project outputs
* Seeking funding and securing resources from various public, private and charitable bodies to support the work

THE HOW - KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

* Lived experience of barriers faced by minority, excluded groups, or advocating on their behalf
* Experience working in an equalities, learning or heritage environment
* Demonstrable interest in the history of colonialism, empire and migration, and an understanding of its contemporary impacts
* Experience of devising and delivering events, engagement and consultation with diverse groups
* Experience in creating and communicating content through a range of digital platforms, including website and social media channels
* A good understanding of the effects of discrimination at individual and community level
* Knowledge of wellbeing challenges and use of self-care practices in the workplace
* Skills to advise on policy, recruitment, resources, and content for anti-racist, decolonial and/ or anti-oppressive organisational development
* Ability to approach problems creatively and search for innovative solutions
* Experience of adapting plans to meet changing requirements
* Proven ability to use initiative and work alone and as part of a team
* Excellent communication, project management and time management skills
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office
