Belmont Recruitment are currently seeking a Commissioning Manager to join Gateshead Council on an interim assignment initially running until the end of August 2026. This is full-time working 37 hours per week (Mon – Fri), based at the Gateshead Civic Centre, NE8 1HH. The role offers hybrid working with three days of onsite working per week.
Overview:
This role will be leading on the development and implementation of commissioning strategies across Aging Well services. The role holder will be supporting improved outcomes for service users and their families, ensuring the right provision is in place to enable independence, and contributing to market development and wider system improvement activity.
Main Duties:
* Lead on the development and delivery of commissioning strategies and action plans
* Support assessment of need including use of JSNA, evidence review and research
* Provide policy advice to internal and external stakeholders
* Develop systems and processes to improve commissioning practice and service review
* Prepare and deliver reports, presentations and related documentation
* Work collaboratively across Council services and external partners to drive improved outcomes
* Support transformation, service redesign and decommissioning work
* Work alongside procurement ensuring quality and value for money
* Project manage defined initiatives and programmes
Essential Criteria:
* Degree level education or equivalent experience with ongoing CPD
* Broad knowledge of relevant policy, legislation and commissioning principles
* Strong written, verbal and presentation skills with ability to persuade and influence
* Experience leading teams and working collaboratively across agencies
* Proven experience managing projects, budgets and timescales
* Understanding of procurement, tendering and market development
* Ability to use evidence to shape commissioning strategy and service redesign
