Purpose:

In RSSL we are customer focused, science led and results driven. The RSSLMicrobiologylaboratory performs a wide range of analytical analyses for a variety of food, pharmaceutical and healthcare companiesand supportsMondelezresearch and innovation.

The role at Scientist II istoundertake a practical rolewith possible supervisoryresponsibilitieswithin theMicrobiologylaboratory. Play a key role in ensuring that projects are performed and supervised effectivelyand accurately withinagreed timescales and to appropriate quality standards.This role focuses onroutine and investigative analyses of productsand method development and validationsusing techniquesdetailed in INF-680.Supervise and train junior members of the team as required.Client contact and administrative support for laboratory management.Refer to INF-680 for key performance indicators and focuses for Traditional and Technical career focus.

The position will be primarily based at theWokinghamalthough may require attendance of any of the RSSL sites.


Primary Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

Technical

1. Provide high quality customer service at all timesby ensuring effective organisation of assigned workload, integrity of analytical data generated andtimely/accurateprovision of results.

2. Performa range of routineand investigativeanalysis usingtechniques asstatedwithin INF-680independentlyandprovide interpretation of results generated byasrequired

3. Performmethoddevelopment,transfersand design validation protocols with support.

4. Responsible for the maintenance of thesystems including checking and approving supplier’s reports (qualifications,repairsand preventative reports).

5. Assistwith technical aspects for client proposals for method development,transfersand validation protocols

6. Besuperuserin the use of(enter specific examples i.e.Openlab),proficient atsetting upreportsand troubleshooting

7. Provide trainingand supervise junior staffin routine activities and methods.

8. Will be expected to work in different laboratories if the demand isrequired.

Communication & Influence

9. Work as part of an efficient analytical team

10. To liaise with clients, businessdevelopmentand line management to ensure effective communication of project proposals and results.

11. Participate in client and stake holder meetings asrequired

12. Deliver presentationsto technical stakeholdersand clients asrequired

13. Manage small projects or defined areas of larger projects

Leadership and supervision

14. Plan own workload and plan routine projectsfor juniorstaff

15. Train junior members of the teamin routine methods

QEHS

16. Work to the highest standards of safety and quality by ensuring thatappropriate COSHHs, risk assessments and SOPs areunderstood and followed

17. To complete assigned quality actionsin a timely manner

18. Assistwith the documentationof SOPs for simple equipment and tests and generation of RiskAssessmentsand COSHH

19. Tomaintaina clean,tidyand safe working environment.

20. To understand and work to the requirements of GMP and UKAS.

21. Ensure training records areaccurate.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Language Requirements:

22. Educated to Degreeor PhDin a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent relevant experience in a laboratory.

23. Good understanding of(include specifics)lab equipment

24. Scientific understanding and ability to independently conduct chemical analysis in relevant area

25. Accountable, honest, hardworkingand able to work efficiently in a team

26. Flexible and adaptable to meet customer/business requirements

27. Well organised and capable of working on multiple activities concurrently. Meticulous attention to detail

28. Good verbal and written skills with the ability to communicate with client’s and colleagues

29. Self motivated,enthusiasticand quick to learn.

30. Able to organise own workand othersto maximise output

31. Computer literatein standard MS office applications

32. Experienceof working withtechniques as perINF-680

33. Experience of working in a regulated environment

34. English fluency (written and spoken)
