Highfield School is an 11-19 secondary school for pupils with severe learning difficulties. Our pupils have a wide range of additional needs including speech, language and communication difficulties, autistic spectrum conditions, more complex learning needs, physical disabilities and a number have rare genetic disorders. Our school is a popular and oversubscribed. Pupils benefit from our highly specialised teaching, outstanding pastoral care and the wide range of specialist support services and interventions we provide through our personalised programmes.
We are seeking to appoint a full time non-teaching Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO), ideally from January or February, whose main purpose will be to:-
1. Deliver the strategic development of special educational needs (SEN) policy and provision in the school
2. Be responsible for day-to-day operation of the SEN policy and co-ordination of specific provision to support all Highfield pupils.
3. Provide professional guidance to colleagues, working closely with staff, parents and other agencies
4. The SENCO will also be expected to fulfil the professional responsibilities of a teacher, as set out in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document.
5. A four day week may be considered pro rata Mon to Thurs for the right candidiate
