Job Summary
NHS Lothian Clinical Health Psychology Service is advertising a permanent 0.5 WTE Band 8A Applied Psychologist post, based within the Pain Management Service at Astley Ainslie Hospital in Edinburgh.
Responsibilities
This key post within the Pain Management Service has responsibilities for providing clinical input on patients presenting with higher levels of psychosocial complexity associated with chronic pain. Therapeutic rehabilitative interventions will be delivered in both 1:1 and group-based formats (via the Pain Management Programme), with patients seen in‑person or online (NearMe).
Work closely with Specialist Pain Physiotherapy colleagues and other psychologists from different professional backgrounds. Provide clinical supervision to other qualified members of the team, trainee psychologists and assistant psychologists. Opportunities to lead or take part in service audits, research and service development are also available.
Professional Context
As part of the wider Clinical Health Psychology Service, approximately 25 clinicians work across 15 specialisms. Opportunities exist for peer‑based supervision, trauma‑informed reflective practice and participation in broader Clinical Health Psychology training, CPD, networking and support. Good links with the Pain Service at the Leith Community Treatment Centre offer regular case discussion and consultation.

Requirements
This post requires the holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the applicant does not hold the relevant PVG membership for the required regulatory group (child and/or adult), they must apply to Disclosure Scotland and a satisfactory record must be obtained before commencing employment. As this is a part‑time role, salary will be pro‑rata.
