Job Title: Project Manager
Location: Flexible across the Southern Patch – regular site and office visits
Contract Type: Perm
Salary: up to £55,000 depending on skills and experience
About the role
This is a Project Manager role with a difference. Rather than focusing solely on the delivery of individual projects, this role is about raising the bar for project delivery across Capital Delivery.
As Project Manager, you will play a critical role in supporting, enabling and upskilling our project professionals, helping them to deliver consistently high‑quality outcomes across AMP8. You will provide leadership and subject matter expertise for the Project Management Centre of Excellence, embedding best practice, strengthening capability and driving delivery excellence across the programme.
Working in a highly regulated environment, you will combine hands‑on project management expertise with coaching, assurance and continuous improvement activity. You’ll help define how projects are delivered at Southern Water, standardising approaches, improving governance, strengthening capability and fostering a strong, connected project management community.
This role is ideal for an experienced Project Manager who enjoys influencing at scale, supporting others to succeed, and leaving a legacy through improved standards, confidence and performance across a large delivery organisation.
What you will be responsible for:
1. Acting as a subject matter expert in programme and project management, providing support and guidance to the Capital Delivery project community
2. Leading the delivery of the Project Management Centre of Excellence Strategic Plan, driving measurable improvement in people, process and cultural capability
3. Developing and delivering bespoke training plans aligned to APM standards, including workshops and community of practice sessions
4. Standardising project management approaches, templates and operating procedures across Capital Delivery
5. Conducting project health checks and providing targeted improvement support
6. Engaging and influencing stakeholders at all levels, including delivery partners and the wider supply chain
7. Proactively managing risks, issues and change in line with governance requirements
8. Researching and promoting industry best practice, digital innovation and efficiency opportunities
9. Championing continuous improvement, collaboration, sustainability and a positive safety culture
What you’ll bring to the role:
10. APM PMQ, PRINCE2 or equivalent qualification or experience
11. Degree‑level education (or equivalent experience) in Project Management, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Business or a related field
12. At least 2 years’ experience delivering medium to large projects within utilities, infrastructure, engineering, environmental or regulated environments.
