The Role
We’re looking for a skilled Planned Instrumentation Field Service Engineer to deliver safe, efficient and high‑quality planned maintenance across a range of water and wastewater assets. You’ll be responsible for the verification, calibration and servicing of instrumentation, supporting regulatory compliance, asset data accuracy and continuous improvement. Working closely with Scheduling and Operational teams, you’ll manage your own workload, contribute to audit readiness and help ensure performance targets and regulatory standards are consistently met.
Job Accountabilities
You will safely and efficiently deliver planned cyclic maintenance activities, with flexibility to undertake reactive work where required. Your responsibilities will include:
* Verifying, calibrating and servicing instruments in line with the cyclic maintenance schedule.
* Carrying out basic servicing, minor adjustments and remedial works within your competence.
* Managing your own workload and liaising daily with the Scheduling team.
* Collecting, validating and updating asset data in line with ARDR procedures.
* Maintaining company test equipment and keeping calibration records up to date.
* Completing M‑Cert annual verifications and 5‑year re‑certifications in line with EA requirements.
* Meeting performance targets aligned to business plans, objectives and KPIs.
* Supporting continuous improvement within the Planned Maintenance Team.
* Ensuring compliance with EA and DWI standards for self‑monitoring of effluent flow.
* Preparing for and supporting regulatory (SIRA) and internal QA audits as required.
Knowledge and Skills
You will have completed a recognised apprenticeship and hold NVQ Level 2/3 (or equivalent) in Instrumentation or Electrical Engineering, ideally supported by ONC/HNC qualifications. You will also demonstrate:
* Strong technical expertise in instrumentation verification, calibration, maintenance and fault‑finding across multiple manufacturers, within Water/Wastewater or a similar regulated industrial environment.
* Sound understanding of EA and DWI regulatory requirements, including M‑Cert processes, self‑monitoring of effluent flow, and health & safety / work authorisation procedures.
* Confidence using relevant IT and asset systems (including SAP, ARDR/Searchlight, QAS, SharePoint, MS Office and manufacturer software), along with experience of STS, SCADA and HMI systems.
* Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently, manage workloads, liaise effectively with operational teams, and oversee third‑party contractors.
* A proactive, detail‑focused approach, including the ability to work in confined spaces and hold a full, valid driving licence.
