FBD Advisor
The Growth Company’s (GC) Justice Services are recruiting a Finance, Benefit, and Debt (FBD) Advisor to support individuals in the community. In this role, you’ll work directly with people who are often facing significant financial challenges, helping them address debt, understand their benefit entitlements, and build the skills needed to manage their money confidently.
Your support plays a crucial part in reducing financial stress, improving stability, and removing barriers that can affect someone’s ability to move forward positively after release or while on probation. This is a hands-on, people-focused role where your guidance can make a meaningful difference to someone’s rehabilitation journey.
Please note we have two vacancies in the following locations:
1. Huddersfield/Dewsbury
2. Leeds Probation
Key Responsibilities:
3. Assist individuals with personal finance issues, debt management, benefit access, and referrals to specialist support.
4. Work directly with participants in custody to resolve benefit and debt challenges. Deliver budgeting guidance and personal spending advice. Liaise with creditors, utility providers, banks, and credit unions.
5. Build positive relationships to create clear, achievable action plans. Tailor support to different learning styles (face-to-face or telephony).
6. Monitor progress and follow up on agreed actions. Advocate for additional support options (., food banks, credit unions).
About you:
7. Excellent communication skills.
8. Ability to work under pressure. Strong interpersonal skills.
9. Competent with MI systems, spreadsheets, diaries, and email.
10. Willing to travel and adapt.
11. Confident and self-motivated.
Skills Required:
12. Experience working within Finance, Benefit or Debt advice.
13. Experience supporting ex-offenders or individuals facing barriers.
14. Experience in training, advice, guidance, or counselling.
15. Knowledge of debt issues and personal finance challenges.
16. Proven ability to meet targets in high-performance environments.
17. Understanding of the welfare-to-work sector and its customer base.
18. Knowledge of training, education, and employment pathways.
19. High level of administrative accuracy and data security.
