A leading regional law firm with several offices is seeking a Risk and Compliance Manager to join its office in Newbury.
Role
We are seeking a Risk and Compliance Manager to play a pivotal role in safeguarding the firm's reputation and ensuring adherence to all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
* Assist the Risk & Compliance Director in developing, implementing, and overseeing the firm's risk management and compliance frameworks. The successful candidate will work closely with fee earners across all practice areas to embed a culture of compliance throughout the organization.
* Conduct regular risk assessments across all areas of the firm's operations, identify potential vulnerabilities, and implement appropriate mitigation measures. You will design and deliver training programs to ensure all staff understand their compliance obligations.
* Deal with referrals from the firm's client and matter onboarding team, ensuring robust client due diligence and conflict-checking processes are in place and consistently applied.
* Monitor regulatory developments and work alongside the Head of Risk & Compliance to advise the partnership on the implications of new or amended legislation, guidance, and best-practice standards.
* Support the Director of Risk & Compliance in managing relationships with external regulators, auditors, and insurers, and coordinate responses to any regulatory enquiries or investigations.
* Prepare compliance reports to the Management Board, highlighting key risks, incidents, and remedial actions.
* Maintain the firm's risk register, business continuity plans, and incident response protocols.
You
The role requires a strategic thinker with deep expertise in legal sector regulation, including Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) requirements, anti-money laundering (AML) obligations, and data protection legislation. The ideal candidate will hold a degree in law, business, or a related discipline and will have substantial experience in a risk and compliance role within a law firm, with a proven track record of developing and implementing compliance frameworks. The candidate must possess comprehensive knowledge of SRA regulatory requirements, AML and sanctions legislation, data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), and professional conduct rules.
