Were looking for an experienced Estimator with a background in steel fabrication to join a busy engineering team. Youll be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and competitive proposals for projects including boilers, pressure vessels, storage tanks, and pressure piping. The role involves reviewing drawings and specifications, understanding client requirements, and working out material, labour, and production costs all while making sure everything meets industry codes like ASME and API.
What Youll Do
1. Review RFQs, technical drawings, specifications, and client documents
2. Analyse project scope and identify requirements
3. Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labour, consumables, subcontracting, and overheads
4. Work with procurement to get supplier pricing
5. Prepare and submit commercial and technical proposals
6. Attend pre-bid meetings and answer technical queries
7. Interpret fabrication drawings, GA drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, and welding details
8. Perform material take-offs (MTO) and assess fabrication complexity
9. Ensure work complies with ASME, API, and other relevant codes
10. Estimate raw materials, labour hours, and subcontracted services (heat treatment, testing, transport)
11. Work with Engineering, Production, QA/QC, and Procurement teams
12. Keep records, track costs, and analyse historical data to improve accuracy
About You
13. Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
14. 38 years experience in estimation, ideally in steel fabrication or heavy engineering
15. Experience with boilers, pressure vessels, storage tanks, or pressure piping projects
16. Strong understanding of fabrication processes and welding methods
17. Familiar with ASME, API, and other international codes
Skills Youll Need
18. Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications
19. Knowledge of carbon steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel grades
20. Confident with MS Excel and estimation software
21. Understanding of fabrication processes including rolling, forming, welding, NDT, PWHT, hydrotesting, and painting
