A dynamic and inclusive secondary school in Hackney is looking for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team this September. The role will involve supporting pupils in KS3 and KS4 who have additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, Speech & Language difficulties, or social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges.
You will work closely with class teachers and the SENCo to ensure that students can fully access the curriculum and make progress in their learning. This will include a combination of 1-to-1 support and small group work, helping pupils to develop independence, confidence, and social skills. You may also be involved in delivering targeted interventions, adapting resources, and supporting students in managing transitions or preparing for examinations.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Providing personalised support to pupils with SEN across a range of subjects, including core areas like English, Maths, and Science
2. Running small-group interventions to improve academic, communication, and social outcomes
3. Assisting with behaviour management and encouraging positive engagement in lessons
4. Collaborating with teachers, SENCo, parents, and external professionals to monitor progress and adapt learning strategies
5. Supporting students’ independence and self-confidence in and out of the classroom
The ideal candidate will have prior experience supporting secondary-aged students with SEN. You should be confident in managing complex behaviours, flexible in your approach, and able to adapt teaching strategies to meet individual learning needs. Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills are essential, as is a genuine commitment to inclusion and helping young people achieve their potential. You will have a strong academic background including GCSEs, A Levels/Diploma and a relevant degree.

6. Full-time, term-time position starting in September
7. Competitive pay of £95–£120 per day, with weekly pay
8. Supportive leadership and a dedicated SENCo
9. Opportunities for professional development and ongoing training
10. Excellent transport links across Hackney and surrounding areas
