The role

Based at our Headington campus and reporting to the Digital Education Lead, the Digital Skills Manager will be responsible for the management and delivery of a high-quality digital skills and educational technology support service to meet curriculum priorities and to enhance the digital capabilities of Brookes’ staff and students. The role will design and deliver our ambitious digital skills training programme for staff engaged in teaching, learning and assessment, will manage a digital education enquiry and consultation service providing expert advice on emerging technologies, while also working in collaboration with university partners as appropriate. The role will manage the work of the Digital Skills team and work closely with the Digital Education Lead on service improvement and development.

About the team

The Digital Skills team together with the Learning Design team is part of the Digital Education service in the Directorate of Learning Resources. We support a variety of online learning platforms, lead initiatives that shape teaching, learning and assessment and build digital capabilities needed to achieve the University’s 2035 Strategy.

Our work spans digital capabilities and skills development, e-learning systems support and quality assurance, and digital learning design in academic faculties. We work closely with the Oxford Brookes Library to make a consistent offer for our services to the University, and with teams such as IT Services, Oxford Centre for Academic Excellence and Development, Strategic Change to strengthen key digital capabilities across the organisation.

What will I be doing?

As a Digital Skills Manager, you will:
* Lead the delivery of a high-quality digital skills and educational technology service that supports curriculum goals and enhances staff and student capabilities.
* Work with the team to deliver a responsive digital education enquiry service, ensuring effective collaboration, issue resolution, and continuous monitoring of demand and quality.
* Coordinate the design and development of digital learning content that promotes effective use of key educational technologies, including VLE, video tools, and emerging tech.
* Manage and deliver digital education training programmes for staff engaged in teaching, learning and assessment in partnership with relevant professional services teams.
* Oversee the maintenance and procurement of hardware and software used by the Digital Education Team.
* Provide line management for team members, including recruitment, performance management, and staff development.
* Develop and manage processes to ensure digital learning content meets accessibility, copyright, data security, storage, and quality standards.

What skills do I need?

Essential:
* Experience working in an educational or information-based environment, supporting digital skills development.
* Experience using Virtual Learning Environments and a range of digital learning tools and platforms.
* Experience creating and evaluating digital learning materials.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences and listen effectively.
* Ability to analyse complex problems and develop practical, effective solutions.
* Ability to generate ideas and identify opportunities to improve existing processes or ways of working.
* Ability to stay motivated and maintain momentum, even in challenging situations.
* Ability to set priorities, work collaboratively, and contribute positively to team decision-making.

About the location

Based at our Headington campus, you’ll experience the vibrant campus atmosphere and benefit from our modern office environment. The campus is one mile from the centre of Oxford and is served by regular public transport.

This role supports hybrid working and is typically expected to involve 1–2 days on campus per week, with flexibility based on directorate needs.
