Job Description
The Environment Agency is fully committed to inclusivity and equal opportunities, offering flexible work arrangements for all our vacancies. We work in a diverse environment where every voice is heard and valued.
The UK’s strategy to deliver Net Zero is driving a transformation in the energy sectors, which are responsible for 24% of UK Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. These sectors must fully decarbonise by 2050, double electricity production, and provide secure domestic sources of energy while mitigating the impacts of climate change. Through effective regulation, we must ensure that energy sectors protect people and the environment from emissions.
We are recruiting a fixed‑term role, up to 2 years, for someone with experience of working in or regulating energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration, and refineries.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert technical support, guidance, and training to stakeholders.
* Develop strategy for our sectors and create regulatory tools to deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, trade associations, and other key industry players.
* Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during emergency situations.
Experience and skills required
* Ability to work effectively with people from varied backgrounds and promote diversity issues.
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, including experience in regulating emissions control measures.
* Strong relationship‑building skills with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies, and academia.
* Team‑oriented approach to achieve common goals.
