Mechanical Design Engineer – Building Services (HVAC, Water & Waste) Location: Manchester (Office-based / Hybrid) About the Role A leading contracting firm in Manchester is seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design of air conditioning, domestic water, and drainage/waste systems. You will oversee the process from concept through to detailed design, ensuring technical robustness and compliance across commercial projects. Responsibilities * Design mechanical building services including HVAC systems, domestic hot & cold water, and waste/drainage solutions. * Collaborate with contractors, site engineers, and external consultants to integrate mechanical systems into building designs effectively. * Create GA drawings, system schematics, load calculations, and design specifications. * Use Revit MEP or equivalent CAD/BIM tools to coordinate mechanical systems with structural and architectural disciplines. * Provide practical, buildable designs that align with budget, programme, and CDM compliance. * Address design queries raised during construction and offer timely technical solutions. * Participate in tender preparation, cost estimation, and value engineering exercises. Essential Requirements * Experience working within a contractor or design-build environment managing mechanical services packages. * Proven background in designing air conditioning systems, plumbing (water supply), and waste/drainage systems. * Proficiency in mechanical design software such as Revit MEP, AutoCAD, or BIM-based tools. * Strong coordination and stakeholder communication skills. * Sound understanding of building regulations (e.g., Part L, CIBSE guidelines), CDM 2015, and standards for mechanical installations. Desirable Experience * Background working on commercial, healthcare, or education projects. * Member of a professional institution (e.g., CIBSE) or in pursuit of Chartered status (CEng). * Experience with early-stage consultancy, specification writing, or site commissioning
