Job Title: Design Engineer - Water Mist
Location: Birmingham
Summary of Role
Working in a team within the H&K Birmingham regional office, you will be instrumental in designing and programming water mist systems for various UK-wide projects.
What you will be doing
1. Develop water mist system designs through coordination with client representatives and other service contracts, leading to final schemes.
2. Contribute to the design programme by monitoring progress against construction schedules and specifications.
3. Issue completion documents and certification.
4. Gather all necessary information from relevant parties for preparing fully designed working drawings, including site teams, architects, consultants, and trades.
5. Attend site meetings independently when necessary, especially where design matters are discussed.
6. Prepare complete working drawings following relevant design codes, including hydraulic calculations for pipe sizing.
7. Create material lists from design drawings for procurement, estimating variations, and scheduling.
8. Send drawings and material quantities to suppliers and subcontractors for procurement, and manage material orders and inventory levels.
9. Perform other activities as instructed by the Project or Design Managers.
10. Familiarize and comply with all company policies and procedures.
What we will need from you
1. Extensive experience in a design engineering role within the sprinkler industry (essential).
2. Strong knowledge of LPC BS EN 12845 standards (essential).
3. LPCB Intermediate and Full Hydraulic Calculation qualifications (highly desirable).
4. Proficiency in AutoCAD; Revit 3D experience (highly desirable).
5. Experience with Full Hydraulic Calculation software, preferably Canute (desirable).
6. Knowledge of Factory Mutual Standards (essential).
7. Knowledge of NFPA standards (highly desirable).
8. HND or Degree in construction/engineering design (highly desirable).
9. Experience in managing, developing, mentoring, and leading teams.
10. Excellent communication skills with clients and colleagues, maintaining a professional company image.
11. Valid driving license and flexibility for travel and occasional overnight stays.
