Job overview

Do you want an exciting development opportunity enabling you to gain valuable experience in change that will help shape the future of care for acutely ill or injured children in Winchester Emergency Department?

If you can bring the skills, knowledge and enthusiasm we have a modern, purpose-built paediatric area in the Emergency Department at RHCH. We are seeking dynamic, motivated and passionate band 5 Paediatric Nurses with a drive for providing high quality care to help shape the future of our department.

You will work closely with the paediatric senior sister, our emergency nurse practitioners and other team members across the Emergency department, including our own Paediatric Emergency Medicine Consultants. Alongside this team you will help form and enhance the care of children presenting to the Emergency department. This role offers the successful applicant an excellent opportunity to use their skills and experience to help structure the future direction of the department where no two days are the same.

Main duties of the job

We seek someone with ideas and drive to help continue to improve the care delivered to children and the experience they have in the department with a passion of advocating for children and their families.

The main duties of this role are to provide nursing care to children with a wide range of medical, surgical, and orthopaedic conditions. You will care for these children in many areas of the department including our own personal Paediatric Resuscitation Bay.

You would be responsible for the delivery of expert care to children and supporting adult nursing colleagues in understanding how to provide the best possible care to children.

We will also teach you and help you expand on your existing skills including (but not limited to) Plastering, wound care, venepuncture and cannulation and the care of the critically ill child/young person.

Working for our organisation

Our vision is to provide outstanding care for every patient. Patient care is at the heart of what we do at our three sites: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester and Andover War Memorial Hospital. Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides medical and surgical services to a population of approximately 600,000 people across Hampshire and parts of West Berkshire.

Our cultural ambition is to have a culture that places people at the heart of all we do, where we all belong, and where learning, improvement and excellence thrive.

We provide specialist services to people across the UK and internationally. We are one of only two centres in the UK treating pseudomyxoma peritonei (a rare form of abdominal cancer) and we are leaders in the field of tertiary liver cancer and colorectal cancer.

The trust employs more than 9,000 staff and has a turnover of over £500 million a year. As a Foundation Trust, we are directly accountable to our members through the governors. The Council of Governors represent the interests of their constituencies and influence the future plans of the Foundation Trust.
