The Role
The Range Control Manager role is unique and crucial. You will be responsible for monitoring and assessing key defence trails supporting our Test and Evaluation (T&E) capabilities across air, land, and sea weapon danger areas. Your focus will be on ensuring safe and effective range operations during both dynamic and static trials. You will work collaboratively with Team Leaders and other stakeholders to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of multiple range activities.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
1. Monitoring camera and marine radar surveillance systems in our control room for trials and proof activities.
2. Advising stakeholders to ensure the safe use of Weapon Danger Areas (WDA) for live firing and trials.
3. Supporting all aspects of range safety during trials, in accordance with regulations and by-laws.
4. Making safety-critical decisions and conducting spot checks during trials.
5. Reviewing Range Standing Orders and Range Hazard Logs with the Range Safety Officer.
6. Planning and managing trials, including emergency and evacuation planning, weather and noise forecasting, and acoustic monitoring.
This is a full-time role, 37 hours per week, based onsite at Eskmeals Range.
Essential experience for the Range Control Manager:
1. Stakeholder engagement experience.
2. Leadership or supervisory experience.
3. Ability to use and learn relevant IT and software systems.
4. Experience working within military, weapons systems, or trials environments.
5. Experience demonstrating safety awareness or relevant technical training such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or trials safety.
