Assist in the development of the diabetes dietetics service, primarily for outpatients and occasionally for inpatients.
Responsibilities
* Provide a high‑quality, evidence‑based and effective diabetes dietetic service.
* Offer expert advice to carers, relatives, clinical practitioners and peers.
* Contribute to the identification and development of service needs.
* Educate and train other health professionals in all aspects of diabetes dietetics and act as an active educator on structured diabetes education programmes.
* Work collaboratively and cooperatively with clinical colleagues to develop services and improve the quality of care delivered. For example, assist with the design and implementation of integrated seamless care pathways between primary and secondary care.
* Undertake research and audits in your specialist area to demonstrate improvements in the quality of care patients receive.
* Be involved in the production of protocols, procedures and evidence‑based literature covering all aspects of diabetes dietetics.
* Be aware of clinical governance issues, including the review of NICE guidelines.
Service Overview
Our service is delivered across three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI) and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal – as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital, GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
Community Service
Adults receive care in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP practices and community hospitals. The aim is to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high‑quality care, advice and support.
