An exciting opportunity has arisen within the SAU/SSSU department Morriston Hospital. We are looking for motivated individuals to undertake a Ward Sister/Charge Nurse role .

SAU Morriston Hospital is a busy Surgical Assessment Unit and Short Stay Surgical Ward. The nursing team on SAU/SSSU place great emphasis on effective communication with all members of the Multidisciplinary team to support patients both pre-operatively and whilst in recovery. You will be able to manage your own workload of admissions and discharges, ensuring that all patients are safely prepared for surgery, transfers and discharges.

The applicants will be expected to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and organisational skills along with clinical leadership qualities. Significant experience within ward/department management is essential at a Band 5 level or above.

The individual will need to be able to work within a team setting as well as demonstrate flexible working, be enthusiastic, motivated and eager to develop further skills and knowledge.

Main duties of the job

SAU/SSSU is a Surgical Assessment Unit and Short Stay Surgical Ward, providing care for patients.

These posts will support the ward Managers in ensuring high quality safe care is given to our patients at all times.

We are looking for Band 6 Junior Sisters / Charge Nurses who have an interest in Surgical Nursing to join our friendly nursing team.

To assist with empowering and enabling the ward/department teams to ensure that patient care is delivered to the highest standards of care, utilising research and evidence-based practice, in line with SBUHB Nursing Policies and Procedures and N.M.C. Code of Practice and professional standards and guidance.

To undertake clinical practice, working competently alongside non -registered, and pre/ post registration staff, providing supervision, teaching and assessment of competency where required.

To be responsible for the assessment of patients nursing care needs, and the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care to meet those nursing needs.

1. Registered Nurse
2. Bachelor degree in relevant health related subject (or equivalent experience)
3. Knowledge of quality and service improvement methodologies e.g. Bronze IQT

5. Experience of formal /informal teaching and of mentoring preregistration nursing or midwifery students.
