Join the team shaping the future of quantum communications. We are seeking an exceptional Senior/Principal Scientist to join the Quantum Information group within the Quantum Technologies Department. This is an opportunity to contribute to research with national impact at the frontier of quantum photonic and quantum‑secured technologies to build the next‑generation quantum networks. As we are recruiting across different levels, we will consider applications from candidates with varied experience. Offer and salary will depend on experience.
Our group advances the science and metrology underpinning cutting‑edge quantum technologies, developing world‑leading test and evaluation capabilities that support both industry and academia. You will be joining us at a transformative moment as we build a quantum network testbed, an initiative delivered in collaboration with leading UK and international partners.
In this permanent role, you will help define the scientific vision and technical roadmap for quantum networking, shaping both the research direction and the broader impact of NPL’s quantum network testbed. You will work closely with colleagues across NPL as well as global research and industrial stakeholders. The role offers flexibility of working full time or part time.
You will thrive in this role if you bring deep technical expertise, leadership capability, and a passion for pushing the boundaries of quantum science and engineering.
To work at NPL, you will need to obtain BPSS security clearance.
