Your new role
As a Maintenance Engineer will provide hands-on engineering support to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all plant machinery within a high‑volume manufacturing environment. Working as part of the night shift engineering team, you will diagnose faults, carry out planned and reactive maintenance, and support continuous improvement across mechanical, electrical, and process systems.This role is critical to maintaining production uptime and ensuringpliance with feed safety, hygiene, and quality standards.
1. Respond to breakdowns quickly and effectively to minimise production downtime.
2. Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on a wide range of mechanical and electrical equipment.
3. Diagnose and repair faults on conveyors, mixers, grinders, motors, gearboxes, pneumatic systems, and automated plant equipment.
4. Perform electrical maintenance tasks, including fault-finding on control panels, sensors, motors, and basic PLC diagnostics (no programming required unless relevant).
5. Support continuous improvement by identifying recurring issues and rmending engineering solutions.
6. Ensurepliance with safety, hygiene, and environmental standards at all times.
7. Maintain accurate maintenance records using the site’s CMMS or logbooks.Work safely and follow all site procedures, including lock‑off/tag‑out, permit‑to‑work, and confined‑space protocols.Collaborate with production teams to optimise machine performance and reduce unplanned stoppages.Assist with installation,missioning, and modification of new equipment or upgrades.
What you'll need to succeed
8. Time‑served or formally qualified engineer (NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Multi‑Skilled Engineering.
9. Experience in manufacturing, FMCG, milling, or heavy industrial environments.
10. Strong mechanical skills: bearings, belts, chains, welding/fabrication, hydraulics, pneumatics.
11. Solid electricalpetence: motors, sensors, control panels, fault-finding.
12. Ability to work independently during night shifts and make sound engineering decisions.
13. Understanding of health & safety, food/feed safety, and environmentalpliance.
14. Goodmunication skills and a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
What you'll get in return
Salary £55, 793, (42 hours per week). 31 days annual leave, pension and sick pay schemes, overtime at enhanced rates.
