Overview
As Podiatrist (Senior) Offender Health, you will undertake assessment and treatment of patients within HMP settings. This includes determining a clinical diagnosis, agreeing with the patient on the podiatric treatment plan, and maintaining records as an autonomous practitioner.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage own clinical caseload, including waiting list management in partnership with the HMP site.
* Maintain professional standards.
* Comply with all PPH standards, policies and procedures.
Clinical Responsibilities
* Be professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of work, ensuring a high standard of clinical care.
* Accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload, organising effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.
* Assess capacity, gain valid informed consent and work within a legal framework with patients lacking capacity to consent.
* Undertake comprehensive assessment of patients, including complex presentations, using investigative and analytical skills and formulating individualised management and treatment plans.
* Deliver a wide range of podiatric treatments including nail surgery, MSK/biomechanics, wound care, diabetes care and routine care based on patient needs and the agreed management plan.
* Provide advice and instruction to patients to facilitate and encourage appropriate self‑care as appropriate.
* Communicate effectively with patients and carers to ensure understanding of the condition.
* Provide specialist advice, teaching and training to other members of the MDT as required.
Professional Responsibilities
* Maintain own clinical professional development (CPD) by keeping up to date with new trends and developments and incorporating them into work.
* Be an active member of the CPD training programme through attendance, delivering presentations, training sessions and attending external courses and practising reflective practice.
* Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with all colleagues to ensure delivery of a coordinated service.
* Participate in the staff appraisal scheme and Personal Development Plan (PDP).
* Undertake the measurement and evaluation of work and current practices through evidence‑based practice projects, audit and outcome measures.
* Demonstrate a sound understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk Management and apply to work situation.
* Represent PHL Group externally (locally, regionally and nationally) regarding the podiatry service for patients.
* Promote understanding of the aims of PHL Group to relatives and carers as appropriate.
* Undertake any other duties that might be considered appropriate by the Senior Operations Manager.
Organisational Responsibilities
* Be responsible for area of work as agreed with Senior Operations Manager and plan and organise efficiently and effectively with regard to patient management and use of time.
* Decide priorities for patient management and ensure these remain in accordance with best clinical practice.
* Be responsible for equipment used in carrying out podiatric duties, adhering to company policy and competence to use equipment.
* Maintain accurate, comprehensive and up‑to‑date documentation, line with legal and company requirements, and communicate assessment and treatment results to the appropriate bodies in the form of reports and letters.
* Be actively involved in the monthly collection of appropriate data and statistics including audits and outcome measures.
* Be aware of Health and Safety aspects of work and implement any policies which may be required to improve safety of work area, including prompt recording and reporting of accidents to senior staff.
* Comply with company policies and procedures and be involved in reviewing and updating as appropriate, following general professional guidelines and standards from the Royal College of Podiatry, the Health and Care Professions Council and Department of Health.
Qualifications
* Essential: HCPC and SOCAP registered; evidence of relevant experience within podiatry; experience with advanced podiatry such as nail surgery and biomechanics.
* Desirable: Post‑graduate qualifications; HMP clearance level relevant to post; experience of working with HMP or HMP‑related environment; management of junior staff.
Experience Requirements
* Work experience within the NHS.
* Experience of lone working, 3 years minimum.
* Post‑graduate experience and minimum 3 years in a relevant role.
