This role sits within the Transport Security Operations Centre (TSOC), the Department for Transport’s hub for crisis response across the UK transport network. TSOC prepares for, monitors and responds to civil contingencies and security incidents, ensuring the transport system remains safe, resilient, and operational.
As part of this team, you’ll play a vital part in supporting real-time decision‑making and keeping Ministers, senior officials, and government partners informed during fast‑moving situations. This is a high-profile role where your work directly contributes to national security and public safety.
You will help ensure the Department is ready to respond to major events and emerging risks by:
* Supporting the Department’s operational response to security and civil contingency incidents, including contributing to the Departmental Operations Centre during live events.
* Maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure robust contingency plans are in place.
* Enhancing situational awareness by monitoring central inboxes, using analytical tools, and keeping decision‑makers updated.
* Conducting short‑term horizon scanning to identify risks and support anticipatory planning across the sector and wider government.
* Managing the operations of the DfT strap facility, including triaging intelligence reporting, ensuring compliance with strap guidance, and maintaining close relationships with strap authorities and UKIC partners.
* Working with subject matter experts across a range of security and transport portfolios to strengthen the Department’s crisis management capability.
* Representing DfT at cross‑government meetings and advocating for the Department’s operational interests.
* Participating in the out-of-hours on‑call rota as part of the team’s emergency response capability.
