Job Summary
The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for all after-school lettings activities. This role ensures that hirers and visitors receive appropriate support, the facilities remain protected, and all site policies and procedures are consistently enforced.
Key Responsibilities
Access and Egress Control
* Open and secure the premises in line with the lettings schedule.
* Verify bookings and grant access only to authorised hirers and visitors.
* Monitor entry and exit points, preventing unauthorised access.
Site Security and Safety
* Carry out regular patrols of the premises and surrounding areas.
* Ensure non-hire areas remain secure and inaccessible to hirers.
* Respond promptly to alarms, disturbances, or suspicious behaviour.
* Maintain knowledge of emergency and fire evacuation procedures.
Health, Safety and Fire
* Ensure emergency exits and fire routes remain clear and accessible.
* Assist with evacuation procedures in the event of fire or emergency.
* Report hazards, damages, and safety concerns immediately.
* Provide first aid support if trained and required.
Customer Service
* Act as the main point of contact for hirers during lettings.
* Provide clear instructions regarding site rules, safety, and procedures.
* Resolve minor disputes or escalate issues where necessary.
* Ensure hirers vacate the premises promptly at the end of bookings.
Incident and Reporting
* Record and report incidents, accidents, or safeguarding concerns.
* Complete shift logs and handover notes for school management.
* Liaise with emergency services when required.
Closing Duties
* Secure all facilities after lettings, including setting alarms and locking up.
* Conduct a final sweep of the premises before leaving site.
Person Specification
Essential:
* Valid SIA Security Guarding or Door Supervisor Licence.
* Subject to Enhanced DBS Check.
* Subject to screening and vetting in accordance with BS7858 standards.
* Previous experience in a security or facilities role.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
* Knowledge of site safety and emergency procedures.
* Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours.
Desirable:
* First Aid at Work qualification.
* Experience working in educational or community environments.
