Future Horizons Packaging - Platform Innovation Senior Scientist
Hybrid role based Weybridge, Surrey
Job purpose:
The mission of the R&D Packaging function is to fuel innovation pipelines with superior, inclusive, responsible solutions unlocking a step change contribution to our growth and responsible business goals.
This exciting new role is at the heart of a new packaging team focusing on disruptive innovation to drive our mid- term business ambition at pace. We are developing the future of consumer healthcare packaging and associated user experiences linked to tubes, blister packs, bottles, caps, pumps and sachets.
This team identifies, selects and predevelops scalable emerging science and technology building blocks in each of our strategic platforms. The work product is a highly selective development portfolio of new-to-Haleon (often new-to-category, new-to-industry) packaging solutions. These solutions areand integrated into the front end of our brand-led innovation model.
The work is strategically programmed through Packaging Technology Platform Roadmaps, reaching out 2-5years and driven forward with a highly externally leveraged approach.
Through our platform TPR(s) we transform thought leadership and vision into predeveloped assets that strengthen our innovation pipeline.
The Packaging Platform Innovation Senior Scientist has the primary objective of delivering selected flagship projects through the predevelopment milestones, managing seamlessly with supplier partnerships, consortia, startups and applied academia.
The successful candidate will have a strong and infectious desire to make a difference. They will be capable of fostering and maintaining effective collaboration with all R&D innovation and packaging teams in the categories and regions, as well as cross-functional partnership with packaging procurement, central sustainability, consumer research and engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
STRATEGY INTO ACTION build and maintain an excellent understanding of our strategic drivers and apply this by turning internal client discussions (Pull, Push-Endorse, Push) into clear project Briefs (Discover, Explore)
TECHNOLOGY PLATFORM ROADMAP proactively contribute to continually strengthen the TPR and its application into daily project delivery
SCOUT-ATTRACT master and apply the latest suite of tools and capabilities to drive world class ‘scout-attract/map-evaluate/inspire-connect’ capability into tangible deliverables PREDEVELOPMENT directly manage packaging predevelopment projects and/or specified scope within large complex projects. Deliver Basis of Interest, Proof of Concept and G1 submissions
EXTERNAL LEVERAGE manage project deliverables (brief, development plan, delivery) through development partners such as tier1&2 suppliers, consortia, startups and applied academia R&D PACKAGING FUNCTION bring high energy and visible contribution to projects within the Global R&D Packaging transformation program, proactively seeking opportunities to drive capability & development
Education / Knowledge:
1. Bachelor’s Degree B.Sc or B.Eng
2. Engineering, Science, Materials Science, Packaging or related field
3. Manager at this level must be highly capable in technical and scientific interpretation/evaluation/communication of data and technical information.
4. Optional: MSc, MEng or PhD
5. Engineering, Science, Materials Science, Packaging or related field
6. Technical complexity of role, engagement and mobilisation of SMEs, functional thought leadership & credibility
Job related Experience:
7. 5+ Years experience in CPG Packaging Development (Consumer or Healthcare preferred) with end-to-end development experience.
8. A strong track record in project management and delivery of innovation development milestones, including launches.
9. Experience in complex organization structures and ways of working.
10. The challenging nature of upstream predevelopment in the context of consumer healthcare packaging.

11. Proven project management capability, ability to define work packages, detailed development plans, manage budget and resources, deliver results with accountability and manage risk proactively
12. Excellent at fostering and maintaining effective collaboration at an individual and team level
13. Capable to operate autonomously, independent judgement and execution, anticipating, interpreting and pro-actively resolving complex problems
14. Self-driven to continuously learn and master the What (as a future Subject Matter Expert ) and the How (as a pioneer of new ways of working) and to apply that for collective impact for the R&D packaging function
