Salary: £65,000 - £70,000 (depending on experience)
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm (37.5 hours per week)

The Role of Financial Controller
This family-owned builders merchant is expanding and seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join their team in this brand new role! You will support the Head of Finance, lead a team of 10 (including Purchase Ledger and a finance apprentice), and collaborate across the business to improve reporting, systems, and processes.
This is a people-focused role where strong communication, leadership, and system knowledge will have a significant impact.
Key responsibilities include:
* Supporting and mentoring the Finance and Purchase Ledger teams
* Developing team members through coaching and guidance
* Providing day-to-day support and assisting with annual appraisals
* Collaborating with Branch Managers and other departments to improve financial understanding and share key reports
* Building strong relationships across departments (credit control, payroll, HR, etc.)
Accounts & Projects
* Assisting with group accounts, monthly forecasts, and reconciliations
* Overseeing cash management, VAT, intercompany balances, and budgets
* Supporting audits and HMRC queries
* Assessing potential new projects and tracking construction spend
* Leading the implementation of the new finance system (Intact), ensuring team training and optimal use of its features
* Identifying system improvements and leading efficiency projects
Reporting & Insight
* Delivering key financial and performance reports to senior leadership
* Developing KPIs and dashboards for decision support
* Ensuring accurate reporting to external stakeholders (banks, insurers, etc.)
* Translating complex data into clear insights for non-finance colleagues
Candidate Requirements:
* A qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) or QBE
* Strong leadership and mentoring experience
* Excellent communication skills for team support and cross-department collaboration
* System-savvy, ideally with enthusiasm for the new finance system
* Detail-oriented, analytical, proactive
* Comfortable in a busy, fast-growing environment
* Experience in construction, property, or merchant industries is a bonus
