What's involved with this role: JOB TITLE: Heritage & Conservation Officer REF: E Cheshire 5273489 Pay rate: £31.49 per hour PAYE The role: On behalf of a local council, we are seeking a Heritage & Conservation Officer for approximately 4 months. A key focus of the role is to efficiently manage a case load of consultations on more complex and larger scale planning applications, appeals, and other corporate projects. Ideally you will have specialist knowledge of conservation and heritage. Key Responsibilities: Provide advice to the Development Management service (particularly in relation to heritage matters), supporting the development of planning policies, and supporting the provision of training to meet service needs. Support the provision of guidance, professional advice and support to junior staff in the team. Support the internal organisation and running of the Environmental Planning Team (such as organising training events for example), on occasions Maintenance of the buildings at risk register, supporting the serving of urgent works notices, review of conservation areas, maintenance of the Local List and supporting the Council’s enforcement function in relation to heritage matters What the client is looking for: A relevant degree level qualification or equivalent along with post-qualification experience of conservation and heritage-based work in a planning context Post graduate qualification in conservation and heritage or equivalent/similar is desirable Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development is desirable Membership of a relevant professional body (IHBC or similar) is desirable Experience of providing advice on a range of more complex planning applications or policy based projects Preparation & presentation of more complex reports for Councillors, applicants or for use in court/ appeals hearings Experience of supporting staff development Experience of appeals and public enquiries related to conservation and heritage Developed understanding and use of MS office, GIS or equivalent, graphic software packages (to produce plans to support the designation of sites, enforcement work and/or court hearings etc) Understanding of planning and historic building law and relevant statutory processes, including the various Town and Country Planning Acts including Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas Act) 1990.
