Overview

Join to apply for the Principal Scientist role at American Nano Society. Location: Cambridge (Alewife), Massachusetts. This is a laboratory-based role within the Proteomics group of the Research & Early Development organization at Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS). The candidate will work in a highly collaborative matrixed environment, interface with Oncology, Immuno-science, Neuroscience, Cardiovascular, and Fibrosis discovery biology areas, Medicinal Chemistry, and translational researchers, and champion proteomics methodologies to address drug discovery and translational research questions. The role includes applying cutting-edge proteomics methods such as “Single Cell Proteomics” and spending at least 60% of time performing proteomics experiments with the team.

Position summary and responsibilities reflect expectations for the Proteomics Researcher to contribute to discovery and translational research programs in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

* The candidate needs to have a good understanding of biochemistry and biology to articulate problems, communicate with stakeholders, and bridge across matrixed teams.
* Convert datasets to usable knowledge to answer complex biological questions across the Drug Discovery Translational Research continuum.
* Articulate the need for proteomics and apply proteomics to discovery, translational, and clinical discovery spaces.
* Develop, deploy, and utilize innovative proteomics techniques/workflows to characterize complex proteomes (including post-translational proteomes) to enable discovery, translational and/or clinical research activities.
* Develop and apply next-generation proteomics and protein mass spectrometry methods (e.g., DIA/SWATH, DDA, label-free profiling, TMT, MRM, PRM) and create innovative MS-based methods for deep unbiased or targeted proteome analyses.
* Handle proteome-level post-translational modification analyses (e.g., glycosylation, acetylation/methylation) as applicable.
* Hands-on experience with proteomics instrumentation (latest generation), nano-chromatography, data processing software, and associated workflows.
* Experience with proteomics workflows automation from sample preparation to nano-LC/MS and instrument data management is valuable.
* Interface with bioinformaticians and biostatisticians to enable in-depth proteomics data analysis and achieve program outcomes.
* Computational skills and basic biostatistics/programming are desirable; familiarity with other “omics” and integrative omics is a plus.
* Proficiency in classical protein biochemical techniques and up-to-date proteomics techniques; familiarity with basic cell culture and standard molecular biology techniques is desirable.
* Experience with handling human and animal biomatrices (tissues, plasma, etc.) is highly desirable.
* Excellent lab skills, lab etiquette, and ability to maintain scientific records and reliable organization in a team/matrix environment.

Qualifications & Experience

* Ph.D. (minimum 4-8 years relevant proteomics experience) in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, or related field is preferred.
* Scientific creativity, innovation, and resilience are required to be successful.
* Track record of scientific productivity in proteomics documented in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.
* Ability to manage teams and contribute strategically to discovery and translational research.
* Strong interest in drug discovery, translational, and clinical research; ability to handle multiple projects in parallel and work across groups.
* Effective organization and presentation skills; reliable, motivated, with strong interpersonal communication in a team/matrix environment.
* Ability to manage scientific staff by articulating a vision, prioritizing work, and supervising studies is desirable.
* Integrity, perseverance, and ability to tackle highly complex challenges.
* Commitment to inclusion and a diverse, inclusive culture; ability to adapt to flexible work arrangements.
* Other company-wide statements: balance, flexible work environment, and competitive benefits.
* Vaccination policy: COVID-19 vaccination is required for U.S./Puerto Rico roles unless an approved accommodation is granted, subject to state/local laws and collective bargaining considerations.
* Accessibility and accommodation: reasonable adjustments available; contact adastaffingsupport@bms.com for accommodations; see career site for EEO statement.
