My client is looking for a skilled and versatile Controls Engineer to join their growing engineering team. This is a technically varied, office-based role with occasional site visits across the UK and overseas. You’ll report directly to the Controls & Automation Manager and work closely with internal departments and customers throughout the lifecycle of each project.
The successful candidate will be responsible for software development and electrical commissioning of control systems, including PLC, HMI, and SCADA integration.
You’ll support control design meetings, produce control specifications and testing schedules, and carry out customer demonstrations and training sessions. In addition to writing new software from scratch, you’ll optimise and modify existing systems, ensuring smooth commissioning and handover to clients.
You’ll be confident in reading electrical schematics and P&IDs, and capable of supporting system integration tasks — including inter-device communication and connectivity between control systems and office-based applications.
What My Client is Looking For:
Proven experience programming PLCs, HMIs, and drives (Beijer, Mitsubishi, Siemens, Allen Bradley, Omron)
Strong understanding of control system design, integration, and commissioning
Ability to interpret electrical schematics and instrumentation diagrams
Experience with SCADA systems and industrial automation
Confident communicator with good organisational skills
A flexible and proactive approach to work, with a willingness to travel when required
Ability to manage time and priorities effectively, working independently or within a team
