Job Summary
Trauma and Related Services (TRS) is advertising a twelve-month secondment position for a Band 6 Nurse Specialist in the Trauma Co‑ordinator/Patient Flow Team starting July 2026. As this is a secondment post, authorisation from your line manager and Matron must be granted prior to submitting your application.
Job Description
Responsibilities:
* Clinical optimisation and scheduling of acute admissions, maintaining patient flow and bed management across Trauma Orthopaedics, Vascular Surgery, Plastic Surgery, High Observation Unit, and Major Trauma Centre.
* Coordinate elective and acute patients within TRS, including emergency department, clinic and tertiary referral admissions.
* Work predominantly at night following full training and a supernumerary period.
* Collaborate with TRS Matron, Clinical Site Matron, consultants and ward teams to ensure efficient patient pathways.
* Provide out‑of‑hours bleep support and ward advice.
* Use initiative to make decisions in a busy environment.
* Communicate effectively as part of a team and independently.
Qualifications
Essential:
* Registered Nurse (Level 1)
* Recognised teaching/assessing qualification
* Evidence of continued professional development
* Willingness to undergo training as necessary
Desirable:
* Post‑registration qualification in a specialty
Experience
Essential:
* Current issues in healthcare
* Significant experience working as a Band 5 Staff Nurse or equivalent post‑registration experience, with substantial experience within the relevant specialty area.
* Audit and standard setting
Desirable:
* Service development and/or change management
Person Specification
